What is ADHD?

ADHD stands for Attention- Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. It's a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects both children and adults. People with ADHD often have difficulty with attention, focus, impulse control and may exhibit hyperactivity.

There are three main types of ADHD, depending on the symptoms:

  1. Inattentive type: difficulty paying attention, following instructions and staying organised.
  2. Hyperactive-Impulsive Type: Hyperactivity and impulsive behaviours, such as being restless or having difficulty waiting one's turn
  3. Combined Type:  A mix of both inattention and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms.

ADHD can impact various areas of life, such as school, work and relationships. It's typically diagnosed through a combination of behavioural evaluations and medical assessments. Treatment often includes a combination of behavioural therapy, lifestyle changes and in some cases medication.
